Nepenthes ephippiata (Gunung Raya, Borneo) Clone:AW-05 encouraging robust root developmentNepenthes ephippiata is a closely related species to N. lowii. N. ephippiata has colorful, striped lower pitchers with very hairy lids. As it matures, it produces distinctly shaped upper pitchers and produce a large amount of exudate on the lids. It is theorized that it uses this exudate to lure small mammals such as shrews who leave their droppings in the pitchers as they lick the sweet exudate off the pitcher lids.
